What to Expect

Art Walks

Staff or docent-led walking tours exploring Iowa State's extensive Art on Campus Collection through themed walks inside or around campus buildings and outdoor spaces. These one-hour programs connect public works of art to topics like architecture, agriculture, student life, or seasonal themes. Our trained tour guides adapt each tour experience to the needs of the group present, and the number of works of art experienced per walk will vary. Free and open to all—students, faculty, staff, members, and the public. Attendees may leave the tour group at any time. Limited seating opportunities may be available along the route. Buildings and walkways will be accessible, including elevators available in lieu of indoor stairs. No registration required. Meet at the location listed for each walk. Don't hesitate to contact us with questions.

Curator's Tour

Intimate, expert-led explorations of exhibitions with the curators who developed them. These hour-long programs offer behind-the-scenes insight into the art, research and stories that shaped the show. Typically scheduled in the early evening (around 5–6 p.m.), these tours provide deeper context than what you'll find on wall labels—think artistic process, social and cultural context, artist’s intent, conservation decisions, connections to University Museums’ collection and ISU curriculum. Free and open to all.

Explore!

Free, family-friendly Saturday mornings (10 a.m.–1 p.m.) featuring come-and-go art activities and crafts. Programs focus on themes like art history, collecting or creativity, with hands-on projects designed for grades K–5. Drop by anytime during the three-hour window. All ages welcome.

Museum Meetups

Social, interactive evenings at University Museums locations where students can engage in activities, learn new things, and connect with others - materials provided and often, free snacks! These 6–8 p.m. drop-in programs (unless otherwise noted) tie into current exhibitions—think embroidery at Farm House Museum or decorating trinket boxes at the Brunnier. Casual, creative, and a great study break. Geared toward students but all are welcome.
