The museums are typically closed mid-December through mid-January and mid-July through mid-August to change exhibitions. Check the University Museums calendar of events for scheduled closures.

Admission

Admission to University Museums locations is free. Donations fund our exhibitions, education programs, and student opportunities. You may give online or in person.

Tours

  • Two weeks' notice required
  • Minimum of 8 people, maximum varies depending on location
    • Large groups may be split into smaller groups
  • $5 per person, per location (or Art on Campus), Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
    • All other times $8 per person, per location
    • No charge for ISU faculty, staff, and classes or K-12 school groups
  • Request a guided group tour

Parking on campus

Iowa State University is a pedestrian-friendly campus with limited vehicle access to Osborn Drive and Morrill Road during weekday business hours. If you require road access to visit, contact us in advance.

Guidelines

To help preserve collections and ensure an enjoyable experience for all visitors:

  • Do not touch objects, pedestals, or exhibition cases. Please maintain a safe distance from all art and historical items.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in exhibition areas.
  • Photography permissions vary by exhibition—please check with staff. Commonly, use of flash is not allowed.
  • Sketch and study are welcome. Pencil and self-contained ink pens may be used without permission.
  • Children must be accompanied by adult(s) at all times. Parents and caregivers are responsible for child supervision.
  • Conversation is welcome; please keep voices at a comfortable level for others nearby.
  • Use headphones for any device audio.
  • Clothing and shoes are required; private areas must remain covered.
  • Bags, backpacks and bulky items should be left at the front desk. Staff cannot be responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
