Are you looking for a way to get involved in the community, develop new skills, or build on existing experience and knowledge? University Museums has a wide range of projects for volunteers including assisting with exhibition installations, mailings, giving tours, and staffing special events.

About the docent program

A docent is a teacher, guide, and interpreter. Docents play a critical role in advancing the encouragement of art exploration. Through interactive art experiences, docents enhance learning opportunities for all tour groups. Additionally, docents get to connect with each other and visitors, explore art history, and engage in imagination.

These wonderful volunteers work with groups of all ages and abilities, serving thousands of learners each year. A background in art, history, or teaching is not required. All docents are provided with ample training to give educational tours and be knowledgeable about the collections through monthly meetings and weekly emails.
