About the docent program

A docent is a teacher, guide and interpreter. That definition does not even begin to explain the many exciting and satisfying components of University Museums docent program. Docents play a critical role in advancing the Museums’ mission of encouraging art exploration. Through interactive and engaging art experiences, docents at the University Museums enhance learning opportunities for tour groups of all ages. Additionally, docents get to speak with each other and visitors about art and life experiences, they explore art history and they engage their imaginations every day.

This wonderful group of volunteers are specially trained to give educational tours and be knowledgeable about the Museums’ collections. They work with groups of all ages and abilities, serving thousands of learners each year. A background in art, history or teaching is helpful, but not required. All docents are provided with training for art museum education through monthly meetings and weekly emails.
